The Snake River Collage in Stages
The Snake River (Final Stage)
Collage 42"x20"
This collage is made from torn paper found in travel magazines and brochures. It is a culmination of multiple stages of preparation and planning. The first stage was selecting the photo from my gallery that would best capture my imagination (see 1). The second stage was to draw it in colored pencil to familiarize myself with the colors and shapes and major areas of focus (see 2). The next stage was the deep dive into the magazine pile (see 3). The next stage was tear and glue the four major areas: sky, canyon, water, and rocks (see 4). The final stage involved is tying it all together - making something you love and feel good about (see above). Of course there are more stages than described above, possibly in the 100s but this breaks it down into more understandable chunks. I did not include the stages of staring at the canvas with a puzzled and frustrated look, or the stage of having your back start to ache from reaching through countless magazines, or the stage in which you walk to the nearest sink to clean the glue off of your fingers and other locations.
