Capturing a moment
My son Xavier. I drew this yesterday following a few commissions I was working on. His eyes looking beyond the frame, the slight tilt of his head, and that inkling of a smile all give to this sketchbook entry a glimpse into this 13 year old's personality.
He usually doesn't like to be captured via photograph, often reverting to a goofy look or plain out walking away from the shot. That's not unusual behavior. But when I took his picture while waiting in front of the Lamai Thai food truck for our order, and this was his expression - I couldn't but help but put it in ink and color.
Being an artist means stayed tuned to those moments when the guard comes down and real emotional content is readily available. I love this kid. This is one way to share how I feel about him.
