Some drawings are easier than others. This one was not. Not because of the technical aspect of the drawing, but rather the content. Asher is a beautiful boy who was still born. A friend of mine contacted me to make this portrait to offer as a gift to the grieving couple. I avoided thinking too much about what exactly I was drawing and rather focused on the lines and the shapes. As the drawing progressed, I couldn't avoid thinking if this were one of my little ones (I have three children and couldn't imagine not having them fill my life with the joy they bring on a daily basis).

ReplyDeleteI am the mother that beautiful little boy. You have given me such a wonderful gift as you recreated this photo. Alive or not, children have the ability to creep into your heart and bring you joy even if is just thru memories.
