This is the portrait of my colleagues grandson drawn from a 4" by 6" school photo. This was done with graphite on 9" by 12" paper. There's a little distortion that comes from using my classroom digital camera (nikon coolpix). The straight on look of school photos is a little challenging to draw mainly because there are multiple sources of light. I've also always thought that drawing the nose straight on is more difficult than from more of an angle (there is no clear outline and the values blend where your mind says "draw a line dummy").
